Nepuchapur Tea Company is characterized in the Dooars region over the past ninety years for its rich heritage and brand.
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas in the Dooars area, surrounded by other tea estates and sanctuaries, washed by Rivers Kumlai and Naora running through our gardens, Nepuchapur Tea Estate prides itself in contributing to sustaining the ecological balance and harmony in the region.
Nepuchapur Tea Company Limited was incorporated about ninety years back. Cultivation of the first three blocks adjacent to River Kumlai started in 1927. The garden was named after the first owner named Nepucha, whose exact background can no longer be confirmed. It is said that a part of the initial funding came from Nawab Mokleswar Rahman who had a stake in multiple local tea plantation businesses. The factory at Nepuchapur was established in 1931. By 1939, the garden size had grown to over 500 acres.
In the sixties, Mr. N.C.DasGupta started investing in the tea business, and took charge as the leading shareholder. Mr. DasGupta was born in Jalpaiguri but settled in Kolkata. Although he set up the headquarters at 5 Clive Ghat Street, Kolkata, he spent the majority of his time at Nepuchapur, leading from the front.
Mr. DasGupta’s diligence and leadership were instrumental in the continuous improvements of the estate, most of which were realized in the eighties and the nineties.
Members of our community mostly live locally. While the majority of the people in the community are
plantation workers, they also work at our factory and in our office at Nepuchapur. The total size of the community that we provide for, including our staff family members, is over 4000 people.
